IT'S A
SURPRISE!!!
We had the 20 week ultrasound on Friday. We were Dr. Doke's last appointment of the day so he spent a lot of time just playing with the ultrasound... it was so much fun! The baby is so very active so it was hard for him to get a good still picture but the dvd is lots of fun- spinning, flipping, kicking, etc. In the above picture, you can see the head on the right with the eyes & the belly on the left. The hands are in the middle. The feet & little toes & fingers are so precious- I can't wait to hold them & kiss them!
As for the gender...
as many of you know, we've been actively debating since before this pregnancy whether or not we would find out what we're having. I want to be suprised- Reagan wants to know. So, at the appointment, I told Dr. Doke not to tell us - let us be surprised. But, I also told him not to tell us when to look away so that we could watch everything but he would not confirm our guesses. I also had him write it down on a piece of paper & place it in a sealed envelope so that if I can't stand it, I can open it at some point. Dr. Doke laughed a lot at my logic & told me he didn't think I would make it to the parking lot without tearing open the envelope. I'll have you know, it's been 3 days & the envelope is still sealed! However, based on what we saw on the ultrasound, we're pretty sure it's a BOY! If it is a boy, it will debunk all of the wives tales which have ALL predicted girl! Again, while I'm pretty sure it's a boy, I still want some doubt in my mind until the "birthday." So it's still sort of a surprise - no doctor confirmation unless I change my mind & rip open that envelope. Of course, I'd have to remember where I hid it from myself first! :)
By the way, the baby is measuring super big for 20 weeks- he/she is closer to 22 1/2 / 23 weeks in all of its measurements & weighs about 13 1/2 oz (most 20 week babies weigh about 9-10 oz.!) So what does this mean? I could have a big baby, I could have the baby a little earlier than my due date, or it could be in a growth spurt right now & be back to average next time... who knows? I'll also have another ultrasound around 35 weeks just to check some things out so we'll see then about the size! We also watched the baby use the bathroom - weird! It was fun to feel the kicking while I watched it.

Thanks for sharing - looks like you guys had a great time and created a very special room for the baby! I vote for NOT opening the envelope. I can still remember when they laid Julia on my stomach and announced "it's a girl" as I heard her cry of joy. I know you will cherish these special times of preparation with all the family! Don't forget to journal!!! love you! dandy
