Fearfully & Wonderfully Made

"...since the day we first heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you & asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light." Colossians 1: 9-12

"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully & wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be." Psalm 139

"Yet you brought me out of the womb; you made me trust in you even at my mother's breast. From birth I was cast upon you; from my mother's womb you have been my God." Psalm 22

We began praying the Colossians passage over our first baby & have continued to pray it over this baby. It has kind of become our prayer for all of our children ("since we first heard about them") - that they would seek & know God intimately, that they would live a life worthy of Him, & that they might know endurance, patience, & joy. I really love those verses & look forward to watching my kids come to know the Lord in those ways.
Psalm 22 brought me great comfort after losing our first baby in knowing that he is with God. I've continued to hold fast to this verse throughout this pregnancy as I've learned to trust God in new ways & am trusting Him to give us this baby to hold here on earth.
Psalm 139- part of this verse is on our baby's nursery wall. Little did we know how powerful a verse it would come to be to us. We began praying this over our child last night & reading it outloud to the baby. This baby is created in God's image - God did not make a mistake as He knit together our baby. We will continue to read this to the belly in the coming weeks & months ahead. And I was remembering this morning (as I was up at 4 am) how we have prayed over our baby's specific body parts. As we studied what has been developing each week, we would ask God to take special care with those particular body parts. I remember praying over the development of hands & feet - that they would be used to serve & follow Jesus. I'm confident God heard our prayers & I look forward to watching Him use the baby's hands & feet! Despite what we might learn in a genetic doctor's office or what the world might say, we are going to continue to claim this - our child is perfect & beautiful just the way he or she is. He (or she) is made by a perfect God who knows what He is doing. Who are we to criticize what He has done or is doing? Our baby may be faced with different challenges in life but we claim God's grace to suprass those potential challenges. And we are humbled that God may be choosing us to know & parent this precious, special child. Please keep us in your prayers with our doctor's appointment with the specialist tomorrow afternoon.
More than ever, I can't wait to kiss those beautiful hands & feet.

A friend sent me some encouraging song lyrics this morning. I don't know how to get them to play on the blog but I recommend reading their lyrics online... or downloading on itunes. I just downloaded them for my baby & Reagan & I .
