I was put in touch the other night with a local mom who has a daughter (age 5) without hands & feet! We spoke for about an hour yesterday evening & had such a good conversation. It was so encouraging to hear of her journey & she was able to advise me on things she wished she'd known prior to delivery, issues I can relax about, & what challenges we may face. We laughed a lot as only someone who has a child (or is planning on having one) without hands & feet can do - there's a lot of things I never dreamed I would say that now come out of my mouth! I can just picture my 2 yr old throwing a temper tantrum & feet are flying... she agreed & we laughed about what the general public must think when they hear us disciplining! This is "our normal." I also cried with her as we discussed some of the really hard issues associated with this. I am so grateful to have someone local that we can call or go see when we can't figure out how to do something ( like brushing our teeth, etc.) I've told her I'm sure her daughter will be like a big sister to my child as far as teaching them how to do things that I can't figure out! We're going to meet her in a few weeks & I'm so excited. I've only been able to find about 3 quad congential amputee kids in the entire USA so finding another one here is very encouraging!
prayer request- for some bizarre reason, babies that are quad con. amputees often have feeding issues. So, please pray that our baby will be able to eat without any problems. I really want to be able to nurse.
