Another mom

One of the blessings in having a child with differences is that I've had the opportunity to meet people I otherwise would likely have never known. And not only have I met them but I've had the opportunity to open up & share with them & get to know their hearts. It's amazing how having such a unique shared experience can make you feel like a kindred spirit with someone.
Recently I've tried contacting moms of congenital amputees in New Jersey & Georgia. So far, I haven't been able to get ahold of them. I've just been desperate for someone who can answer my questions & encourage me regarding some of the unique circumstances we face.

This week, I spent several hours with a woman who has several children. Two of her kids have hand & feet differences. She was able to share with me lots of practical ideas as well as to encourage me. She gave me ideas on how to handle questions & stares when out in public. She was able to understand & sympathize with my deep fears for Will's future & my ache in knowing he will face such difficult challenges. Yet, she could also reassure me on some of those fears as her children are nearly grown & have not only survived but have thrived. Most importantly, however, she just knew. She knew where we're at & she knew where we're going. And while it is sometimes a scary place, it's not a bad place. In fact, it can be wonderful! Reflecting back on our conversation, I smiled at something. We both agreed that being the moms to kids with hand & feet differences is an honor. We don't know why were choosen but we are honored God thinks we can handle it (with His help.)
