The patient champions receiving their very nicely framed medals & articles
The patient champions presenting with the check (Will kept trying to escape!)
Will was recently invited to his first cocktail party. His name was the one on the invitation! Scottish Rite hosted a party honoring the patient champions from the 2007 White Rock Marathon. The Marathon people also presented a check to the hospital. Scottish Rite is the primary beneficiary of all proceeds from the race. (Be looking soon for information about Will's 2008 team!)
I had so much fun dressing Will up in his button up shirt just like his daddy wears. He did great for the most part. During the speeches, he had to go crawl in the back hallway- it was just too long for him to sit still (especially after the 2 hr car ride to get there.)
I had a blast. I love going to Scottish Rite because it is probably the only time away from home where I get to be normal. I can spend time talking with other moms & dads who truly understand what our life is like. I watch other kids with differences & get so excited about all that Will will do. One of the kids in the above picture wears a back brace 20 hours a day & just competed in an international beauty pageant. Another kids has two prosthetic legs & ran his first 5K at age 5! One of the kids above has a prosthetic leg & played high school football, track, & wrestling. He is planning on playing football at ACU. My point is... these are all normal kids with differences- it is the only time we are in the norm!
Thanks, TSRHC, for making Will a 2007 patient champion!
