Today's Ramblings

He might have a future in plumbing

Or, perhaps he'll join the nudist colony.
My son, the exhibitionist!

a very serious base ball player

my little daredevil... why slide on your bottom down the slide when you can jump & fly off the top? Landing on your belly is fun, Mommy!

me - trying to get Will to go through the tunnel in our obstacle course. He wasn't interested. I,however, was sopping wet after doing so (& I didn't wear my swimsuit)

Apparently, painting the bottom of his baby pool was more fun than doing the obstacle course
Guess who gets home late tonight? R!!!! (Of course, he has to leave early afternoon on Sunday... our 6th anniversary.) But, that's ok! We're celebrating all weekend long & can't wait to have him home!
So, I've been preparing for his arrival in several ways-
I've cleaned up the house, organized some closets, & will have showered/done my hair & makeup by the time he gets home tonight (we're going swimming shortly which is why it's not already done.)
On a completely, unrelated side note- I did the above (shower/hair/makeup) yesterday because I had to go the the DPS & get my drivers license renewed. So, after nap time, I threw Will in the car & went to do that. Prior to going, being a responsible young adult, I called to make sure I had all the necessary items with me (ss card, etc.) There was no mention of a fee or of the fact that the credit card machine is broken. I never carry cash or my checkbook.
So, I learn of that when I arrive & I said in my nice, passive agressive ticked off voice that it would have been nice for the person to have mentioned that when I called to find out what I needed. Customer Service specialists they are not.
So, I raced (probably not a good idea near the DPS office) to the nearest ghetto atm machine I could find, pulled Will out of his carseat to run in & get cash (thought about getting it in pennies but WWJD), put Will back in the car, raced back to the DPS office & arrived at the door at 5:01pm. It was locked. So, I returned again today but didn't bother washing my hair again.
Silly I know to go to so much trouble for a dl picture. I'm a dork, I admit. But this picture will take me well into my 30's & I figure at some point, should I ever be carded again or be pulled over for speeding, I will be grateful to have my picture on my dl be from my 20's.
I digress, where was I?
Preparing for R's arrival...
so I've cleaned, I've cooked a lot - I love cooking for him but our visit is so short this time & it's our anniversary & I do not want to be in the kitchen all weekend so I've cooked ahead.
And, I've been doing some thinking /creative planning based on our church's summer ladies Bible study I'm participating in - it's a good one - on intimacy issues. I can hardly wait to see my husband!
And that is all I will say about that. ;)
My kitchen counter today as I began cooking. I love fresh veggies in the summer!!!
I love chopping veggies too - the routine of it just feels so good. And the feel of the knife in my hand - maybe it's a control issue? I love seeing something whole turn into so many diced morsels of goodness. I enjoy watching so many pieces come together to form something yummy!
I made a yummy gazpacho with those veggies (R & I met in Spain so I'm going with the Spanish theme for our anniverary meal.) Gazpacho is a cold, tomato based, tons of veggies, chunky, yummy summer soup. Note the 2 Spanish wines above to complement our meal - along with some shrimp I'll grill (my man loves his shrimp - me, not so much) & yummy bread :)
And, I'm surprising him with a picnic on our floor at midnight (or before- we may not be able to stay awake til then!) with chocolate covered strawberries. We were starving after our wedding reception & so had a picnic on the floor with leftover wedding goodies.
I found this fruit this morning at the grocery store. I can't remember what it is called but we used to buy it at roadside stands in Central America & it is so gooey & yummy! Look forward to introducing it to R this weekend.
To digress again - I probably wouldn't recommend buying fruit anymore at roadside stands in Central America. I was a naive young person. I also once hitchhiked for a 2 hr trip from Leon to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico with a Frenchman. He seemed trustworthy & he was. I even fell asleep in the car. Geeze, Louise- I was naive. (And, thankfully, God protected me.)
Of course, that same trip resulted in me eating some bad food at a bad restaurant which landed me in a hospital for awhile. Did I mention I was naive?
I digress. Again.
I also whipped up a light summer pasta using whole wheat pasta, lemons, fresh basil from my yard, & my leftover veggies from the gazpacho & an eggplant I had in my fridge. Yummy (I hope!)
