The frontier of Texas had a snow day yesterday - with maybe 4-5 inches! It was amazing! It was especially bizarre considering that on Sunday, Will was in shorts & doing some spring training for the upcoming baseball season and then by Tuesday, we were playing in the snow! Wild & fun!!!
We headed to a friend's house armed with hot cocoa & marshmallows.
Will was not fond of the snow.
Will was not fond of the snow.
I can't seem to figure out how to get mittens or gloves to stay on his hands so I could understand why he didn't care to make snowballs to throw at me or even to touch the cold stuff. It was super cold. But, he was also super cranky outside - except when I was holding him & spinning in circles.
(turned out, he was running a temp last night so maybe that explains his crankiness.)
My friend made some delicious snow ice cream. Will hated it & cried (the kid does not like cold foods- popsicles, ice cream, anything cold -crazy!) I ate all of his & loved it!
Will did, however, love his hot cocoa!
When I put Will down for his nap yesterday, I promised him he would wake up to a cowboy snowman. Little did I know how much work snowman building is! I headed outside with my coat & mittens & got to work rolling a giant snowball. Then I picked up the thing to place it where I wanted. Wow! It was so heavy! I was seriously winded from the effort. I choose to blame that on the tiny baby deep within.
I comfort myself lately when I feel out of breath from doing nothing that I did at one point (very early on) run a half-marthon (13.1 miles) while pregant with this babe. (I didn't even know at the time I was pregnant - found out a few days later.) That makes me feel better when I can hardly stand up without huffing & puffing! I have continued to do Body Pump & some cardio but running has taken a big hit.
I don't know if it is a second baby thing or just an out of shape mommy thing or if I'm carrying differently than I did with Will but I feel like this babe is sometimes already pushing up on my lungs. Is that weird or normal? I'm only 13 weeks so it seems to early for that!
Anyway, I'm wiped out from two huge snowballs & have 1 to go (I had no intention of doing more than one snowman,) when my kind neighbor & his friend from Alaska (where apparently this is a regular activity) noticed me & grabbed shovels to come assist me. By "assist" I mean that they built the snow family & I offered them a beer for their labor & then I accessorized the snow family. It was a good tradeoff.
They did a great job! I am thankful for good neighbors!
When Will woke up, I told him I had a big surprise & he was so excited to see our snow family! He was especially excited that there was both a cowboy snowman (representing Will) & a baseball one (representing Daddy - also wearing flip flops & a swimsuit.)
He just sat on the sidewalk & watched them - so cute!
My favorite comment though was when he said,
"Mommy, where's the baby snowman?" I responded, "it's in the mommy's tummy!" This makes sense seeing as how the mommy snowman/woman is rather squatty & big in the middle. I love that he is already seeing our family as a family of 4!

Mason didn't love the snow either...maybe one day!
PS- Love your snow family- very cute! I'm impressed you did most of it yourself. I waited til Michael got home so I could take pictures while he was doing it.
I LOVE that Will was sitting there watching the family be!
That's a precious pic of you and Will, so fun to have snow!
Jen
So funny! I love the squatty snowman!
