Look who surprised us & came home for a quick visit!!!
Dada!!!!!
(if I had a nickel for every time I heard that word this weekend, I'd be a filthy rich woman & could afford lots of used books on amazon!!! In fact, I'd never have to sell a Discovery Toy again - which would be good since I haven't sold a single one in 2009.)
We thought that Will & I might catch a quick flight to Houston to go see R for the weekend, but honestly, I really didn't have the energy to do that. Then, R booked a flight to come home at 8pm Saturday - 2pmish Sunday...
& he surprised us by coming home at 4:30 on Friday!!! (Court got cancelled for that afternoon!)
So - my daily counting of our days separated ended at day 9... except now we've started it up again. It looks like his trial could go through July 3. He hopes to come home again this weekend which will be nice since it's our 6th anniversary ... although it's on Sunday & he'll have to leave around 2 on Sunday so it will be the first anniversary we don't actually spend the night together. Oh well - we're grateful he's working & getting lots of hours in so he can relax on our vacations later this summer!
We celebrated Dada day all weekend long. On Sunday morning, we had a family breakfast with our little fam followed by a scavenger hunt. R asked me not to spend money so I cleaned out a portion of our shed that he's asked me to do forever (or at least for the last 5 years.) I actually had so much fun looking through my old high school & middle school pictures & photo albums & journals. Did I seriously wear my hair like that? And whoever decided that vests were cool? I found some old letters from a boyfriend which cracked me up - I saved them in case my daughter wants to read them someday - they're hilarious! I had lots of pictures of several of my friends that died while we were in college (one due to medical poisioning in Mexico, one due to lukemia, & one due to unknown causes in a tanning bed.) Oh, how my heart misses those girlfriends. But, I have such great memories- senior trip, sleepovers, laughing our heads off together, etc. It was so fun to spend some time looking back through all that stuff (& reorganizing it to get it out of our shed for R's father's day gift.)
Will & I took R on a scavenger hunt to find his "gift" & he LOVED it!
After church, we went to R's sister's house & celebrated Dada day with R's dad & sister's family. It was so neat to have 3 generations at lunch (see above pic)
We slept late on Saturday morning (til 9am- yahoo!) & then I got to listen to the rain & snuggle with both my boys. That's the best, ever!!! We stayed in our pjs all morning & then played in the puddles in our street.

Clearly Will has been ESPN deprived without R here. (Althought some friends had us over fir dinner last week several times & their husbands tried to help out Will with some sports.)
Friday night, R & Will enjoyed some college baseball together. R was exhausted from a rough 9 days with his trial so he was so thankful to have Will present to sportscast for him. Here's how Will's "play by play" went:
"Dada- Base ball! Dada- base ball hat! Dada- base ball run! Dada- base ball bat! Go Go Go! Dada - base ball glove! Dada!" (repeat)
I have no idea how R would have ever followed the game if not for Will's diligent reporting of such critical details.
And also, as you may notice above, he must have his base ball gear on with his pjs in order to properly watch the sport.

(And no, I'm not writing base ball incorrectly. Well, technically, I am, but, Will says it with a big pause inbetween base & ball - hence my writing it with a space. - You know, in case you're into editing blog posts.)
Will has long played pretend car & phone with any random object. Lately, however, he's actually interacting with his toys in pretend games. Last week, he was convinced that "nemo" the shark needed to go night night with him & then eat some yogurt for breakfast. When Will was all done with breakfast he informed me: "Mommy, will all done. Nemo all done too!" So cute!
This morning, I caught him running in circles saying "chugga chugga choo choo." He was pretending to be a train! Loving this pretending phase we're entering!
I know you're just dying to know how my tomato plants are doing! R & I enjoyed our first red tomato last weekend! I also enjoyed a yellow one last week. Is there anything better than warm, sunkissed, homegrown tomatoes?!?! (Besides, of course, snuggling with your husband &
baby boy on a rainy Sat morning?)
Will is working on dressing himself lately. Obviously, he was tired of waiting on me to put his zancos on for him so he took matters into his own hands (or feet.)
