G I R L!!!
Originally, we thought we would let Will be the first to meet the new baby brother or sister and then announce the gender to our waiting family. As our circumstances have so drastically changed recently, we felt that perhaps we should open the envelope now so that we could have a specific name to pray for. I also have felt strongly led to shop for this precious child - to have their name monogrammed on sweet, tiny clothes that are ready to go. I don't want them to go to surgery without a blanket and clothes. I need a name to give their life significance now. If I don't get very long to hold this child, I want them dressed beautifully. I don't want to waste any time.
So, we opened the envelope. R & I opened it in bed yesterday morning.
Then, we told Will and we let him tell our family.
Both my local ob's office & our genetic counselor in Boston made us sealed envelopes with the gender written inside.
Turns out, they were both correct. We'll get back a chromosome report in the next 8 days or so which will also confirm the news!
The Boston genetic counselor made pink confetti in her envelope. Our local ob's office wrote, "Will was right! It's a girl! Congrats!"
We cried. Tears of joy - I have so many dreams for my Ellie Grace. We cried tears of sorrow too - will she live long enough to know how much she is loved? I love her so much - I can't imagine my life or our family without her.
I'm so glad we can call her by name.
Eleanor Grace
"Ellie"
(Or as Will continues to insist: "Caroline Ellie Ellie Grace")
He also didn't act so surprised yesterday - he's insisted all along it is a girl so he doesn't know what the big deal is!
