Once upon a time, a mommy called to register her three year old son for a local soccer and baseball program. She thought it would be good to offer her son something fun away from hospitals, something just for him. Plus, it would get him around other children and wear him out.
And he does love baseball.
And the mommy did not mention to the coach one teeny, tiny, tidbit of information.
The mommy did not mention that the boy wears prosthetic legs.
Nor did she mention that he has partial hands and three partial fingers.
It never actually came up so the mommy just didn't say anything.
The mommy was kind of afraid that if she mentioned it, it might make the coach nervous and they might try to limit the boy, or place him in a younger class, or, worse, not allow him to play at all.
The mommy didn't want the coach to underestimate the boy.
The boy can play baseball.
He can kick a soccer ball.
He doesn't need shin splints. (Think of the money we'll save! ha ha)
And the conversation was over so quickly.
And the boy is beside himself with excitement.
The boy and the mommy went on a date to Target to buy soccer clothes.
He can't wait to meet his coach.
And the mommy kind of sort of thinks it might be interesting to take a picture of the coach's face when he first realizes he is coaching a three year old little boy - who happens to be a quad congenital amputee.
I'm wondering how quickly he'll get it.
And I'm hoping I made the right decision and that the coach won't have time to limit the boy... or even to be amazed.
Maybe, just maybe, he'll just be treated like every other three year old.

Good for you, Katie!!! I think you certainly did the right thing:)) He needs to meet Will and see what an energetic, capable little boy he is dealing with!
Can't wait for the pictures:)) GOOOOO WILL!!!
I agree, good decision!
Will can run and jump and do everything everybody else does, and you correctly stated, he won't need shin guards! LOL
Can't wait to read about his first goal!
That Mommy is one fine lady and that boy is going to be one fine soccer player!!! Oh yes, he is!!!
Good luck with soccer...praying that his coach will be just the right one.
I predict he'll be a star.
Cheering him on and can't wait for the first practice!
