Coming Soon... Or Why I am So So So Behind

I offer the following excuses for my lack of blogging in recent weeks/months:

  • I had to renew my teaching certificate by July 31.  To do that, I had to log 150 hours of continued ed hours online.  Therefore every time over most of the summer that I had a few minutes, I was turning on the computer to watch yet another brutally boring class that had little to nothing to do with my particular subject field.  But I got those hours.  Whew.  After all of that, the last thing I wanted to do was sit at my computer some more.
  • Birthday Month!  In the next two weeks, I have a mermaid birthday party, a first day of school at a big, new school, & a spy birthday party.  My brain is fuzzy.  I'm hoping I don't end up with spies wearing mermaid tails.  My house is exploding in mermaid fins, seashells, crafting supplies, spy gear, & school supplies.
  • School!  Will is about to start kindergarten at a big, new school.  I am an anxious wreck.  I love summer and so not ready for school.  I am not ready for a new school and new teachers and new kids who have questions about my kid.  I'm stock piling supplies and have a ridiculous amount of scissors on my dining room table because we need to figure out which kind is easiest for him.   In the meantime, we had a big meeting today (Will & I) with lots of teachers (I'll blog more later.  Maybe.  If I remember.)  and a big parent meeting tonight and my mind is swimming.  Plus, since we are dealing with unique issues (limb differences), Will & I wrote our annual children's book and I was under the school deadline to get that completed in time - again, another computer task which meant I didn't want to open the computer to blog in addition to book writing.
  • Prosthetics.  Will & I have made several trips this summer to Dallas to work on new prosthetics.  Yesterday, we went for his final alignment... I was really praying all would go well and maybe I could get his new legs overnighted to us in time to start school.  (His old (current) prosthetics don't fit and are quite painful.)  Sadly, the new ones, although they aligned perfectly, aren't going to be a good fit for a variety of reasons so his prosthesist is going to create a totally new style of prosthetic.  We're shooting for early-mid Sept now.  Argh.
  • SUMMER!  I am a summer mom.  I love it.  I'll blog more later about why.  Maybe.  But, in the meantime, why blog when we could be swimming?!  Or taking naps?  Or reading?  Or taking a last minute road trip to MO?  Or swimming?!  Or night swimming?
Hopefully, I'll blog soon about Ellie's birthday... If not, I'll be back soon.  I promise.   I don't scrapbook so I have to get back to it eventually as my only way to remember what happened when.
(My grandmother texted me worried I was quitting.  So, no, Grams, not quitting.  Just distracted.)

I've been thinking of Will and Ellie! JK is doing great. I've wanted to check in but so busy with little things. Great news on jaw surgery: not needed at this time! He is feeling comfortable with school, etc...

When we looking at the summer slide pictures of Will, JK said, "wow, he's like a big kid now"...so no more 'baby' for Will! He also loves to see the picture of Ellie napping with her hat on her face as it cracks him up.

Funny story: he went on a play date with a new friend and also had a play date first, the mum who is a teacher at his school took him out to the park near her home. So this is a first 'outing' type play date without me. She is a teacher at his school but for older grades. Anyway the shock she had at ALL the comments, including the repeated questioner, at the park was so obvious. I could tell she was shell shocked and a bit horrified really and kept saying how JK was so patient and calm but she was so frustrated with constant comments, following, over and over questions sometimes by same kids. Later I asked JK it seemed like just typical comments by all little kids under age 4 but said he didn't want to have play dates with her because 'I don't want her to worry about me so much, maybe next time we can play at our house so she won't be so stressed.'! then with dramatic sigh he adds 'now she's gonna be all weird and treat me like a baby now'...

sometimes I think I need a blog just to tell all my stories! and not comment 'like a fool' on others blogs. I always intend to say a little hello and be supportive but I end up going on and on.

Ok. so just wanted to say CONGRATS on teaching degree renewal. Sorry for wait for prosthetics. JK's last year on was one that was just not best fit but got new one in Jan and it is great fit...but falling apart...literally the top knee area is chipped, black with dirt and chucking off...but it fits so comfortable I'm sad to see it go! I wish I was as great a birthday planner as you (and had a nicer home): I always cave and do a chuckee cheese party but now he will be '8' and goes to Waldorf school (were parties have all been themed home parties or themed cookouts in park)! Happy birthday to the 'mermaid'!
