R & I were invited on Saturday night to a small dinner party with 3 other couples. It was at a chef's home who had trained at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. Along with several other cooks (several from France) they served us an INCREDIBLE meal! It was just like being in France... except that we were still in the TX frontier. There were 7 courses served and several courses had multiple dishes- served one at a time. The meal lasted over 5 hours! I actually let at midnight to relieve our babysitter but R stayed as they still had 2 courses to go at midnight! And, for each course, they served a different type of wine or champagne. It was a tasty night!
I used to be adventurous with my food but have slacked off in recent years. Saturday made me be adventurous again... although, I admit that the escargot (pictured above- & no, I do have some class & didn't take my camera- I just google imaged some photos for the blog's sake!) Anyway, I did eat 2 escargot & they were delicious but I couldn't bring myself to eat the other 3 on my plate. I just kept thinking of how when it storms, Will & I go outside & salt our snails to keep them from eating my flowers. I couldn't really get past that.
There were two very rich, heavy main courses. In fact, in between them (at 10:30 at night by that point!) we took a 2 block walk. We just had to get moving! We ate coq a vin in burgandy sauce with pasta (pic above) & beef wellington (pic below). The beef wellington was a bit rare for my taste (as in I think I heard mooing) & covered in a delicious pastry - this was not a low carb night!
The shrimp artichoke soup & selection of fabulous French cheeses were my favorite parts of the night... along with the olives, of course! The chef cooked the crepes suzette in front of us since it flames & that was very cool & delicious!
Other than that, we kind of just hung out all weekend & took Will swimming 3 times! R's grandmother was in town too so it was fun to spend time with her! More pics on the way!
