Doctor Days- Recap!

Will's doctor days last week in Dallas went well. The basic bottom line is:
hands- We just don't have a lot of options. As we expected, our Dallas hand drs are not on the same page as our Boston hand drs (Boston =more agressive / Dallas= more laid back approach). We are still considering surgery (possibly 2) but no decisions on that at this time. One surgery would need to be done asap (we're not leaning towards doing it) & the other could wait a year or 2. More than likely, we would do that in Boston at Boston Children's Hospital.
The hand occupational therapist was pleased with what she is seeing from Will regarding fine motor skills & gave us some fun eating utensils & scissors to help him master those skills.
mouth - good appointment; we are going to go for attempt #3 on mouth surgeries at Dallas Children's Hospital. It is not scheduled at this time but for insurance/deductible purposes, we're hoping to schedule it to occurr prior to 12/31. That dr was thrilled with Will's progress!
Feet- okay appt; the doctors are not too concerned about the pain he was complaining about in his foot. They can't find anything irregular so we avoided unnecessary x-rays (we try to limit how much radiation Will is exposed to) although I wasn't really satisfied with their recommendation of giving motrin when he complains of foot pain. We continued to push the issue though so we also made a trip to the prosthetics lab where they adjusted his prosthetic for his left leg. So far, he has not complained about any more foot pain so hopefully that adjustment relieved the pressure which may have been causing the pain.
All in all, good appointments, exhausting but good.

This is a horrible picture of me but I think it demonstrates how 2 full doctor days with Will can really wear a boy & his mommy out...

We stopped by my grandparents home to quickly visit them after one of Will's appointments. Having been sitting still all day for various doctors, Will was not going to be still for a picture!

When we left his mouth dr appointment, there was a firetruck outside the offices! Will was so excited & gave the fireman a high-five.

We have been playing pretend doctor to get Will ready for his barrage of appointments. He practiced giving the doctors shots & really seemed to enjoy that!

"Dover" the dog got drug all over hospitals & doctor's offices in Dallas! As he walked down the hallways, nurses & other waiting patients just cracked up. He has become very meticulious about Dover- he does not like it when Dover accidently "rolls over" & is being drug on his back. Will takes great pains to make sure that Dover gets back on his feet!

Since he loves trains, he was thrilled to find this giant train set at Scottish Rite that had huge Thomas & James engines & a button Will could push to make the train go.

Dragging Dover

We always go visit the PR people at Scottish Rite - they've become good friends & we love stopping by to say hi. Will loves flirting with all the girls... it's almost a reward system for being good at the doctor! After performing part of "Jesus Loves Me," he gave lots of high-fives.
